"Hello," he lied, part two
Which myths? The Senior Partner(TM) specifically mentioned abortion, claiming that the bill will NOT allow for public funding of abortions. The problem: Not even the Associated Press believes him.
Associated Press, August 5, 2009 -- Gov't Insurance Would Allow Coverage for Abortion
Health care legislation before Congress would allow a new government-sponsored insurance plan to cover abortions, a decision that would affect millions of women and recast federal policy on the divisive issue.
Federal funds for abortions are now restricted to cases involving rape, incest or danger to the life of the mother. Abortion opponents say those restrictions should carry over to any health insurance sold through a new marketplace envisioned under the legislation, an exchange where people would choose private coverage or the public plan.
Abortion rights supporters say that would have the effect of denying coverage for abortion to millions of women who now have it through workplace insurance and are expected to join the exchange.
The predictable leftard argument is that Congress is insisting that abortions will not be paid for using tax dollars, but premium dollars. This is a distinction without a difference. Utterly dishonest. They pretend that money is not fungible. Government subsidizes the plan, the plan pays for abortions.
Obama also claimed that the plan would not fund benefits for illegal immigrants. If this is true, why did the Democrats in Congress vote, by party line, not to check patients for eligibility to prevent this very occurance? Obama also claimed that the "Death Panel" rumors are false. Not even the New York Times is signing on to that piece of tripe anymore.
New York Times: A Basis is Seen for Some Health Care Fears About the Elderly.
White House officials and Democrats in Congress say the fears of older Americans about possible rationing of health care are based on myths and falsehoods. But Medicare beneficiaries and insurance counselors say the concerns are not entirely irrational
Bills now in Congress would squeeze savings out of Medicare, a lifeline for the elderly, on the assumption that doctors and hospitals can be more efficient.
Obama. While he's spending precious political capital on anything but shoring up support for the War in Afghanistan, he is squandering it here at home, using his bully pulpit not to beat down Al Qaeda and the Taliban, but to beat down his fellow Americans.
Obama. Everything he says about health care reform is a lie, except for "if," "but," and "the." And I'm not so sure about "the."

Oops. I messed up.
Turns out that that's not true, either. The libtards are bound and determined to allow even illegal immigrants to suckle at the public teat.
Health reform legislation, particularly H.R. 3200, contains a number of provisions that open the door to taxpayer funding of immigrants’ health care. That’s for illegal aliens, legal aliens who are supposed to rely on their sponsor for financial assistance their first five years here, and certain immigrants who sponsor other immigrants.
In brief:
Despite nominally barring illegal immigrants from receiving a health-insurance subsidy, an amendment to require that applicants be screened for eligibility — as are all other welfare recipients — was rejected on a party-line vote.
Even legal immigrants whose sponsors are supposed to provide them financial support would be eligible for taxpayer-funded subsidies.
Certain legal immigrants who qualify for premium subsidies or expanded Medicaid would also be able to sponsor new immigrants, whom they would have to pledge to support.
Illegal immigrants would be exempt from the legal mandate to have health insurance, but they’d still receive taxpayer-funded medical services at health clinics and hospitals required to serve all those presenting with medical emergencies.
So they have carefully left the back door sitting wide open - and voted overwhelmingly to keep it open - for illegals to steal health care from the American taxpayer. (Indeed, in a way, they might have to. If the libtards get their way, they will make it illegal for illegal immigrants to buy their own private health insurance!)
They do all this - on a party line vote - while simultaneously trotting forth their leaders to claim that the ObamaCare will not cover illegals, KNOWING DAMN WELL THAT IT WILL.
There is simly no negotiating in good faith with the current crop of libtards. They will lie to your face. They'll sabatoge and undercut their own legislation. They'll search your court records and divorce proceedings if you get in their way.
Nothing is beyond the pale for these people.

A-dime-per-can tax increase on soda?
" if your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not one single dime."
If Obama doesn't pledge to veto this, then we know what his word is good for, don't we?
WASHINGTON (AP) - Early work on the ambitious health care overhaul the Obama administration is seeking has exposed the kinds of in-house fights that typify just how hard it will be to get meaningful legislation this year. Case in point: A proposal to help bankroll universal health coverage with a dime-a-can increase in the price of soft drinks.
Who's behind this? Democrats, of course. Looking out for working families, and all that.
Other possible screwings:
- Increasing the price of soda and other sugary drinks by 10 cents a can.
- Applying a potential 2 percent income tax increase to single taxpayers earning more than $200,000 a year and households earning more than $250,000.
- A new employer payroll tax could target 3 percent of employers' health care expenditures.
- Taxing employer-provided health insurance benefits above certain levels - a less likely option but one that still is in the running..
If they add a 3% payroll tax on health insurance, smaller employers will drop their coverage by the thousands. These fools don't understand how group plans and other ancillary benefit packages are sold to small businesses. The agent goes in and shows them how paying compensation in benefits can cost little or nothing once you net in FICA and Medicaid payroll taxes. That's a huge part of the sell, and a huge part of why small business owners provide these benefits.
If Congress destroys that, then employers will simply drop coverage.
Which is, of course, what these cretins want, because that will only increase demand for universal care.
The liberal assault on private enterprise, small business and the middle class continues apace.

Lefty bloggers furious at the lack of free money coming their way.
Here's a hint, you idiots:
The conventional media companies hire professional ad salespeople, and pay them a hefty commission, to go out and solicit ad space.
It's a brutal, highly competetive business.
The reason you haven't got your share is because you haven't put for the effort a publisher and ad sales force puts into revenue generation. Hint: If you put all your effort into content - which we love, and it's why we became bloggers instead of ad salespeople - that effort isn't going to putting hours and hours into developing a media kit, tracking metrics, spending money to get those metrics audited by a third party, and sitting down and making 400 phone calls a day to potential advertisers.
Because that's what your competition is doing to barely break even in many cases.
If Jane Hamsher would stop flapping her gums on Bloggingheads for free and sit and dial for dollars and learn to sell and close, she could bring in money.
But she wouldn't be writing, and that's not as much fun.
Libtards don't understand where money comes from. Which is why they are so eager to tax it when they think someone has too much.
I see this on www.angryjournalist.com all the time. Low-paid editorial staff complain about long hours and cutbacks in the newsroom and illustrate it by complaining about how the sales staff makes so much money, or got a neat trip or something.
Any good ad salesman should come to the newsroom, and say four little magic words: "I'm revenue; You're overhead."

Democrat districts shaft military voters
In New York, ten counties make up the 20th congressional district, and nine of them sent their absentee ballots to overseas voters too late for them to be received and returned in time to count in this election. One county mailed them on March 12 and eight counties mailed them on March 13, all by regular mail with only one exception — Essex County used an express mail service.
Under New York law, absentee ballots in this race had to be postmarked by March 30, the day before the March 31 election, and received by April 7. That left most military voters only 25 days to receive, mark and return their absentee ballots, which everyone agrees isn’t enough time, given overseas mail delays.
A congressional seat hangs in the balance.
Some servicemember with standing (i.e., residence in the district) should file suit. Now.
The Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, which is responsible for enforcing the federal statute that guarantees the right of overseas citizens and military personnel to vote by absentee ballot, contacted the New York State Board of Elections and requested that they issue their ballots sooner for this race. The two Republican members of the board voted to support this request. Yet the two Democratic members of the board, shamefully enough, voted against doing so. Were they trying to disenfranchise military voters?
I can think of no other reason.
The Justice Department then filed a federal lawsuit on March 24 against the election board and the governor of New York. But the requested remedy was nowhere near what should have been asked for to remedy this problem, and didn’t include any of the measures that we successfully asked for from other courts when I was at the Division coordinating DOJ’s enforcement of this statute.
The only thing DOJ leaders essentially asked for (and got in a consent decree) was an extension of time for the receipt of overseas ballots, from April 7 to April 13. In other words, despite the fact that almost every expert in this area now recommends at least a 45-day transit time for absentee ballots for military voters, Justice asked only for 30.

Obama to widows, orphans, the poor and the handicapped:
Still, the charitable giving deduction reduction, which would limit deductions for couples making $250,000 or individuals making $200,000, provoked the most heat Thursday. Mr. Obama is counting on that provision to raise $179.8 billion over 10 years.
Just when I think the Obama Administration has done the dumbest thing imaginable, they come up with something even dumber.
Many charities rely on just a few large donors for a substantial portion of their cash flows. These donors have large pockets, of course, and are generally wealthy.
The Obama proposal, if the Washington Times' characterization is accurate, is a dagger pointed straight at the United Way, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Ronald McDonald House, the Red Cross, Catholic Charities, and every other large charity you'd care to name, local or national.
The wealthy will not be hurt by this. The wealthy can simply find something else to do with their money. The people hurt by this are precisely the people who rely on these charities, and their low-paid staff.

More hilarity on the Army Emergency Relief Fund hit job
Today, we have Jeff Donn of the Associated Press leading his story headlined "Veterans Advocates Riled by Report on Army Charity" with an interview with a spokesperson from a veterans organization critical of the AERF.
Who does he lead with? The American Legion?
No.
Veterans of Foreign Wars?
No.
Soldiers' Angels?
No.
He leads with a spokesperson from some outfit called Veterans United For Truth.
No, I've never heard of them either.
Here's their Web site.
Flipping through the pages very quickly, here's what I learned about them:
o they are a non-partisan 501(c)3 organization.
o as a non-partisan organization, they naturally call for criminal charges to be filed against George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Alberto Gonzalez, and a host of others.
o they don't believe we are at war with terrorists.
o They believe the deployment of National Guard troops to Iraq is illegal.
o Michael Dukakis is on their board of advisors.
o Their newsletter includes exerpts from AlterNet and TruthOut.org.
God knows how these jokers ended up in an AP reporters' rolodex. As a reporter, though, I tried to keep people in my tickler file from all across the political spectrum, and talk to a number of people from all points of view while writing my stories.
So who else does the AP interview on this story? How about Amy Fairweather, a San Francisco attorney, Mills College alma mater and chair of the Iraq Veteran Project. And where is the Iraq Veteran Project headquartered? San Francisco! (So far, California scores 2 for 2!)
And what can we learn about the Iraqi Veteran Project on its Web site?
The Iraqi Veteran Project grew out of Swords into Ploughshares, a veterans advocacy program that started in San Francisco in 1974. It provides veterans seeking to sue the VA for benefits with legal counsel (the law prevents veterans from suing directly, but these guys, apparently, sue on their behalf.
At least these guys appear to have actually done some good for veterans (though their claim that on any given night there are 200,000 to 400,000 homeless veterans on our streets seems high to me.)
They've also helped to out a fraudulent military charity. Nancy Pelosi serves on the advisory board.
But the chairman of Swords into Ploughshares is a guy named Paul Cox. Paul appears prominently with an organization called Courage to Resist. Their motto: "Support the Troops who Refuse to Fight!" According to their Web site, they have lately been conducting "training" of members of Veterans Against the War who are currently serving on active duty - activities which include teaching servicepeople the ramifications of going AWOL, refusing orders, desertion, etc.
Sedition, apparently, is a virtue among these fucks. (Why would Nancy Pelosi willingly consort with a known pro-sedition organization, anyway?)
The third organization the AP talked to is Veterans for Common Sense, out of Washington, D.C. The head of the organization is Paul Sullivan. As far as I can tell, Sullivan's outfit is the only legit organization out of the three AER Fund critics interviewed for the piece. Sullivan at least has some street cred, having testified before Congress on veterans affairs without going completely off his rocker.
But Sullivan is also strongly supporting a lawsuit seeking to prevent military chaplains from using Christianity and religiousity as tools in combatting military suicide. (Although I think he has a point, given the Establishment clause and the particulars of the cases cited, one wonders just what a chaplain is supposed to use? The latest Melanie Beattie book?)
Indeed, although Sullivan is careful to protect his reputation as something other than a screaming libtard, a look through the site's news archive and press releases reveals a consistent pattern of highlighting news and views from a reliable libtard perspective. Veterans for Common Sense highlights the wonderful awesomeness of the Obama transition team, the vile pro-torture policies of the Bush administration, the need for a "Truth Commission" to investigate the Bush administration, and the usual litany of libtard complaints.
Three for three.
Associated Press, you just got led around by the nose by the left.
As usual.
Dorks.

Nannies and Taxes Derailed Carolyn Kennedy's anointing to the Senate.
Why are libtards so keen on raising taxes on everything in sight; yet so keen on not paying them themselves?
This part's hilarious:
Hard feelings toward Ms. Kennedy were clearly building among the governor’s staff on Thursday, after a dramatic evening in which she was reported to be dropping out, then wavering, then ultimately, shortly after midnight on Thursday, issuing a statement ending her candidacy.
The person close to the governor said Mr. Paterson “never had any intention of picking Kennedy” because he had come to consider her unready for the job. The person did not describe the exact nature or seriousness of the tax and household employee issues.
But other Democratic operatives and people who talked to the governor disputed that account, and said that he had all but decided to select Ms. Kennedy as senator, and that his staff was arranging a press conference for late this week.
So the Governor demonstrates a firm grasp of the obvious: That Kennedy is an empty suit, and her elevation to the Senate would make a laughing stock of Democrat politics (not that that has ever stopped them before), and yet the flying monkeys in the Kennedy camp manage to ignore the Nanny problem and the tax problem and insist that yes, the Gov IS, TOO, GONNA PICK CAROLYN KENNEDY!!!!!(paynoattentiontowhatthegovernor'sofficeisactuallysaying).
(either they are lying about their knowledge of the issue, or Kennedy lied to them and they're, umm, ok with that).
More:
Several people who have spoken to the governor said he had decided on Ms. Kennedy some time ago. A Democrat operative with ties to Mr. Paterson said the governor told Ms. Kennedy last week that she was the choice, but that he would use the next few days to do “a little misdirection to keep the suspense up.”
A person close to the governor adamantly denied that assertion.
“The fiasco of the last 24 hours reinforced why the governor never intended to choose her,” the person said.

How many feminists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Here's Dee Dee Myers, former press secretary for Bill Clinton (and one of my great secret crushes in politics) on Jon Favreau's shenanegans with a cardboard cutout of Hillary Clinton:
I can’t stop thinking about this picture, and I confess I find it really upsetting. And, no, it’s not because I don’t have a sense of humor. I like to think I have a well-earned reputation for often irreverent, sometimes ill-advised humor. But I’m not laughing now.
That's not funny, dammit!
And it’s not that I was never young. My friends from college and in the years just beyond can testify that I did some things then that I wouldn’t want to see on the Internet now. But I had a big job in the White House at a young age too; at 31—just a few years older than Favreau is now—I became White House press secretary.
Shorter Dee Dee: "I was never young."
If he’s old enough and wise enough and mature enough to write for the president of the United States—and not just any president but one who seems poised to take words more seriously than any since Abraham Lincoln—
HUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!
HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!
HUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!
(spit spit, retch retch)
Geez, what a twit.
than he’s clearly old enough and wise enough and mature enough to avoid getting his picture taken behaving in a way that is embarrassing to him, his boss, the secretary of state–designate, his family, and, one hopes, a majority of 27-year-old males (though that may be too optimistic.) It’s indefensible. But that’s still not what’s bugging me.
What's bugging me right now is that when Bill Clinton cheated on his wife and used a 21-year-old intern as his personal sperm receptacle in the Oval Office, Myers was considerably more circumspect about calling for accountability.
Update: The next issue of Vanity Fair has nude photos of Kate Winslet.
Jus' sayin, y'all.
Update II: Read this, too, though, from Dee Dee Myers back in 1998: "The President's relationship with Monica Lewinsky was so reckless as to seem pathological."No call for accountability in sight, though. Indeed, she takes the opportunity to criticize Ken Starr.

My Pet Jawa Exposes Large Dem PR Firm In Slanderous Astroturfing

This just in ....
Who knew?
Please, lefttards....PLEEEEEAAAAAASE make an issue out of Palin's pastor. The contrast between her pastor (if you go to the Harper's link, there is nothing they've dug up that is at variance with or outside of the conservative Christian or evangelical mainstream. The contrast could not be more damning to Obama/Wright.
These people are so stupid they'll shoot themselves in the foot out of spite, to get vengeance on conservatives for digging up Reverend Wright's vile sermons. Which is doubly stupid, because Jeralyn is not stupid.
ADDED: And in the comments:
What I find is interesting is how I feel as a Christian who happens to be a Democrat reading some of the comments re Palin.
It is astonishing to me how much my Liberal and Democratic Progressive friends are starting to sound like the Republicans I have known all my life here in East TN.
I consider myself a Progressive Christian because I do not believe that my beliefs are the only viable beliefs, but I would be considered to be a creationist.
Suddenly, I find that among many "progressives" I am considered backward, stupid and laughable.
I thought we were the party of tolerance? It seems that many of us have about as much tolerance as those we proclaim to challenge.
Well, the Democratic Party has soiled itself. It's now the party of religious bigotry. (Unless you go to an Amerikkka-hating church. Then it's ok, and you get nominated for president.)

McCain's POW experience left him an intellectual cripple
ABC News' Teddy Davis and Molly Hunter Report: While Barack Obama was urging supporters not to devalue the military service of rival John McCain, an informal Obama adviser argued Monday that the former POW's isolation during the Vietnam War has hobbled the Arizona senator's capacity as a war-time leader.
“Sadly, Sen. McCain was not available during those times, and I say that with all due respect to him," said informal Obama adviser Rand Beers. "I think that the notion that the members of the Senate who were in the ground forces or who were ashore in Vietnam have a very different view of Vietnam and the cost that you described than John McCain does because he was in isolation essentially for many of those years and did not experience the turmoil here or the challenges that were involved for those of us who served in Vietnam during the Vietnam war."
"So I think," he continued, "to some extent his national security experience in that regard is sadly limited and I think it is reflected in some of the ways that he thinks about how U.S. forces might be committed to conflicts around the world."
Yes, this Democrat thinks that McCain, somehow magically rendered illiterate by his time in prison, is an intellectual cripple, by virtue of the fact that he missed out on the key developmental experience of smoking pot, dropping acid with Timothy Leary and and banging hippie chicks during the Summer of Love. Obama, of course, has the advantage of living through this time of enlightenment. He would have been about seven or ten years old at the time.
What a condescending prick.
