My daughter worked in an animal refuge for several years. She asserts that monkeys/apes that were raised in captivity were essentially insane by the time they were received at her facility. Essentially, they cannot act human because they aren't human. Neither can they act like a monkey, because they never learned by being around other monkeys. They could never put placed with the others of their kind, because they would have been killed by the others.
