Why?
Why are these pussy judges giving out sentences for outright desertion and missing movement that are shorter than a typical tour of duty? He's going to be out and drinking beer and screwing honorable soldiers' girlfriends while they're still overseas!
I would start at five years - and then only with some serious mitigating factors, with a garden variety asshole like this one serving closer to eight to ten years.

Comments:
They should be sent to prison for a lengthy time and forced to repay Uncle Sam for all their training costs.
I would say they should serve their sentence aiding in the care of wounded servicemembers -- but I'm not sure those wounded would want them around.
