Duckworth Blasts President for "Mission Accomplished" slogan
That's what she's saying in a radio address response. The Democrats love to trot out disaffected soldiers.

Umm, Tammy...that wasn't the President saying that. That was the military.

Well, a little corner of it, anyway. Some guys on an aircraft carrier.

Don't count on our water-carrying press corps to hold her feet to the fire when it comes to checking out her claims.

Well, that's probably a bad way to put it. But you get the idea.

Comments:
to hold her feet to the fire

Dude, she lost both feet in Iraq, you might want to rephrase that.

Huh? I suppose you could argue that even though the President landed on a ship in front of a huge banner saying Mission Accomplished he didn't 'proclaim it' himself. I think you would want to give him credit for things the military accomplished successfully on his watch at his command - so shouldn't he take blame too? It's not like he complained about the banner either - do you feel he didn't know it was going to be there?

If that woman doesn't have a plan for winning the war Bush took us into without preparing the American people for a long hard slog, she can be criticized for that. This is a very minor misstatement, even if you don't feel that the President actually did proclaim mission accomplished by having the military put up the banner.

"I think you would want to give him credit for things the military accomplished successfully on his watch at his command - so shouldn't he take blame too?"

What blame? It was a freakin' banner. Dumbest controversy ever.

"Feet to the fire." Low blow, dude. Low blow.

Good God, man! Have you no sole?

I think this story has legs.

I know. I shouldn't be such a heel.

She said much more than that, but I guess if that's all you got, where're ahead of the game.

Well, I'm glad you dipped a toe in the water before-

DAMMIT now you have me doing it!! So wrong...

I should probably pick on someone closer to my own thighs.

Woodward supposedly has it in his new book (have not read it yet) that Bush DID have the phrase "mission accomplished" in the text of his speech, but when Rumsfeld came across it he had it removed, but not in time to intercept the banner rollout.
