RIYADH (Reuters) - Muslim tycoons should buy stakes in global media outlets to help change anti-Muslim attitudes around the world, ministers from Islamic countries heard at a conference in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
Information ministers and officials meeting under the auspices of the 57-nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the world's largest Islamic body, said Islam faced vilification after the September 11 attacks, when 19 Arabs killed nearly 3,000 people in U.S. cities in 2001.
"Muslim investors must invest in the large media institutions of the world, which generally make considerable profits, so that they have the ability to affect their policies via their administrative boards," OIC chief Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu told the gathering in the Saudi city of Jeddah.
"This would benefit in terms of correcting the image of Islam worldwide," he said, calling on Muslim countries to set up more channels in widely-spoken foreign languages.

When I was in high school in the early 60’s, even I saw the “Power of the Press” and saw how it could mold public opinion. In politics, it is called propaganda. This is something that scares me as much as terrorists; mainly because I see no real fighting back, other than a few blogs like yours. Your previous article shows why the Muslims see this as a necessity or even an opportunity. Even those who do not support terrorism but feel they are being discriminated against see the advantages in this. In a struggle like what we have now, the battle of minds is more important than the fights on the military battlefield. We are winning militarily, but loosing the propaganda war. Our government is failing in making their point not only to the American people, but to the world. Too many mislead (by the MSM) Americans are basically supporting the enemy by adding to the false propaganda of the enemy. WE are handing the enemy WMD (Weapons of Mass Disinformation.) Now the terrorists are gaining more ground by their association with unknowing (and some knowing) Muslims who want to make their points heard. It is drowning out our side. We (our government) had better get on the stick. This scares me. How do we get them on it?
