Is Coulter going down?
It seems so.

You would think someone with that big a bullseye on her back would be smarter about not doing dumb stuff like plagiarizing.

Then again, I have a hard time believing that anyone else writes like she does. She has an unmistakeable style and unique structure to her humor I haven't seen anywhere else.

I'll let this shake out a little more.

Funny how her comeuppance comes from a guy who studied at Berkeley.

Think he fed Michael Moore's columns into his black box?

Splash, out

10 word passages are "plagiarism" and not "fair use?"

Or is it perhaps possible that her word choice happened to match someone else's? Especially for something as short as 10 words about a single subject. There are only so many ways to convey an idea, after all. <-- that sentence is 12 words long. And if anyone else agrees and says the same thing using those same 12 words are they plagiarizing me?

Sounds like much ado about nothing to me.
Fair use requires that you cite source.

While at the same time relishing when my political enemies get snagged for plagiarism and cringing when my political faves get busted, I have to wonder if it isn't a little overblown. Fercrissakes, DAn Fogarty got sued for PLAGIARIZING HIMSELF!

Given the emphasis we place on it in academic circles, and the embarassment of getting caught, I can't believe that most people do it intentionally - for instance, Stephen Ambrose. (Or Coulter. She has staked her turf as one of the hard hitters in the ideological war, with an added emphasis on how dumb her adversaries are. I can't believe that she would intentionally offer up an opening like this for them; maybe I'm giving her too much credit.)

The reason words sound 'right' together in a sentence is because of our 'ear' for language. So, given an idea that you may have read somewhere but don't consciously remember, and the best way it's going to sound in writing, they can't be that far apart.

I'd like to see the Plagiamatic computer compare the paragraph above with the previous poster's - similar idea, done with differences.?!
