The media will regard the resignation of Rumsfeld as the crowning proof that the war has "failed" (SecDefs don't resign if you're winning the war). The only thing better, from their perspective, would be a Presidential admission that we're losing and the whole thing was a mistake. Indeed, if Rumsfeld resigns, the first question they'll ask Bush will be something like, "Mr. President, do you think the resignation of Secretary Rumsfeld indicates that the war is lost?"
