Flak Vest Follies, Redux
James Dunnigan on body armor:

The new, heavier, body armor arriving in Iraq is creating a potential public relations problem. Many of the troops don't want to wear the new stuff. Why? Because the heavier new armor could get them killed.

Comments:
One thing does worry me... it's starting to look like elements of PEO Soldier may be lying through their teeth about Dragonskin.

If they came out and said "Great stuff, but it's too heavy and so hard to produce that it would take 5 years to transition to it", then I would understand that. But this "it hasn't been tested/it just doesn't perform" line is looking a little fishy to me right now.
