I read the linked article, and I noticed something that makes me very suspicious. The article mentions a "bomb material" called Black Cummin which also has "more benign properties", but is supposed to make a very powerful explosive.
Does anyone else remember the "red mercury" hoax from the early 1990s? This "Black Cummin" sounds strangely similar.
This makes me question the accuracy of the story in general.

I just noticed that I left out one final sentence from my previous comment. It should end with "I don't doubt the general proposition that Al Queda has no love of the French, I merely question if this specific case actually illustrates the general proposition."
