New Orleans Police: Another failure of command
Now the chief of the New Orleans police, an organization so famously corrupt that it actually had to be put under Federal control, having watched 200 troopers simply walk off the job, is sitting around criticizing the National Guard for being late for doing the job he was supposed to be doing.

I'm sooooo glad Florida policemen in Dade, Broward, Lee, Indian River, Charlotte, and Lee counties are so far above this petty man. As are the vast majority of his police officers who are staying on the job in incredibly bad conditions, God bless them.

The men are better than their leaders, obviously.

The whole town is flooded, and this guy's complaining about wet shoes?

Bad policeman. No doughnut!

Note the reporter's snide ignorance:

A top New Orleans police officer said that National Guard troops sat around playing cards while people died in the stricken city after Hurricane Katrina.

New Orleans deputy police commander W.S. Riley launched a bitter attack on the federal response to the disaster though he praised the way the evacuation was eventually handled.

The National Guard is part of the state response, not federal, genius.

Splash, out

This inept collection of municipal "leaders" demonstrates a collective and profoundly deep misunderstanding of their own disaster relief plans (I know they have some because FEMA tried to get them to exercise them last year). They don't understand their role, let alone the roles of the state and federal agencies designated to support THEM. The comments they are quoted as having made do nothing but continue to prove this point over and over again.

My gut reaction to these guys at first was "it takes more to lead a city than party planning skills." Then I realized even a good party planner would have had refreshments at the Superdome...
