Iraq vets hitting college campuses
No wonder young warriors volunteer for additional combat tours. You can have more respect for your adversaries.

NRO looks at what happens:
“A woman on campus had apparently learned I might be a Marine. When I told her I was, she said, ‘You’re a disgusting human being, and I hope you rot in hell!’ ”
Indeed, Martinez, who will be the first male in his family to receive a college diploma, says he is receiving more of an education than he bargained for: “There are a lot of people who don’t appreciate military service in college,” Martinez said. “If someone asks me about it, and I think that they’re not too liberal, I might tell them I was in Iraq. But I don’t tell them the full extent of it or anything about the Navy Cross.”
The Navy Cross — as in second only to the Congressional Medal of Honor. Martinez, formerly of 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, is a bona-fide American hero and the first Hispanic American since Vietnam to receive the Navy Cross. During the Battle of At Tarmiya, one of Sergeant Martinez’s fellow marines had been hit in the legs and left for dead by five terrorists holed up in an adobe garden shed. That’s when Martinez used his body to shield the dying marine from the terrorist before mounting a 20-meter frontal charge at the bunker with nothing but a depleted rifle and a grenade. With enemy bullets pinging off his gear, Martinez unpinned the grenade, slammed his body into the adobe building, and lobbed the device into the window of the structure, killing all the terrorists inside.
But as liberal professors and antiwar activists continue to wage a nationwide campaign to rid university campuses of military recruiters — in some cases going so far as to throw water bottles and scream epithets at them — it is easy to see why Sergeant Martinez would remain tight-lipped about being one of the nation’s most decorated heroes.

Hi Jason,
Suggest to SGT Martinez to transfer to Columbia University in NYC. Do we have anti-military students and professors? Yes. However, we also have the 3+ year old U.S. Military Veterans of Columbia University (MilVets), an officially recognized veteran-based student group, the Columbia Military Society (CMS), an officially recognized cadet-based student group, Military in Business Association (MIBA), a business school vets group, and of course, the Advocates for Columbia ROTC (ACR), whom you already know. Students United for America (SU4A) is a civilian-based student group that's very supportive of the military (FYI, the SU4A president's father was a firefighter who died in the Twin Towers on 9/11). West Point also sends quite a few officers to Columbia to get their 'teaching' degrees. Various deans, faculty and university officials have begun to express interest in supporting civil-military and veterans issues on campus.
In short, student-veterans at Columbia still experience the typical crap, but we don't do so alone. We have friends, fellow vets and even campus organizations as support. If SGT Martinez is uncomfortable where he's at, suggest that he transfer to Columbia U. - he's got family in Morningside Heights.

There are federal and state statutes against creating a hostile work environment for employees. The same should apply at universities. One or two major $$ lawsuits would eliminate this kind of campus activity.
Sir,
Suggest he join's College Republicans.
There have got to be some fraternities that just care about having fun and aren't jerks.
However, I think the part of this article is that Universities are moving or are already too far left.

It has been my experience that universities in general are already just about as far left as possible. I don't think they're moving further that direction.
I attended a private university, founded by Methodists. Although it is no longer Methodist run, it is one of the most expensive schools in the nation. As such, one might expect a somewhat more conservative staff and student body. What I experienced though, was that the faculty was still quite left-leaning in its attitudes towards our nation.
