The insurgents suffer a disastrous defeat
...A company-sized element attacks a Baghdad police complex and lose perhaps 50 percent of their number.

Of course, their unwitting stooges at the Guardian think that counts as a victory.

I mean, they couldn't get more obsequious PR if they put the Guardian on the payroll.

What's really nauseating is that the journalist, Rory Carrell, knows exactly what he's doing. The closing paragraph of his piece is a quote from LTC funk describing it precisely. This doesn't seem to bother him, though, and he nevertheless headlines it "insurgents snatch victory from defeat".

Either Mr. Carroll *wants* to portray the insurgents as victorious, contrary to the facts of the situation (the question then being: why?)... or he's just plain stupid.

He writes:

"A spate of explosions in the past two days killed more than 40 people but it was the spectacular but less bloody attack at Baya'a that showed the resistance was still in business."

So they got themselves killed spectacularly, and it's a victory?

Only if the media MAKE it one. In case you weren't aware, that includes you, Mr. Carroll. Thanks a lot.

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading your blog. I check it every day.

Good call arm. Even more disturbing is the (unintentional?) irony contained in the last quote. Here we have a "news" article describing a tremendous victory for the Iraqi police that is completely skewed toward the "insurgents". Talk about the pot calling itself black. These bastards really want us to lose, even if they end up getting vaporized in the bargain. Wankers.
