LA Times Publishes Correction
The LA Times published this correction today:
So kudos to the LA Times for publishing the correction.
As is their practice, they also placed the correction prominently within the online text of the original article. Very commendable, since historians rely so much on Google when assembling the historical record, and since nobody but obsessive, cantankerous cranks like me read corrections pages, anyway.
I don't know why the Times felt compelled to mention that the address was not publicized to the Western news media. I don't think its relevant. The Los Angeles Times has just as much responsibility for accuracy whether the speech was publicized or not.
After all, even the pseudojournalists at Fox knew about it. And so did the San Francisco Chronicle. And so did thousands of blog readers.
If there were any at the Times, they wouldn't have egg on their face.
Here's where the reporter, Alissa Rubin, blew it:
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. If, in her notes, she couldn't find any evidence of a Bremer farewell address, she should have picked up the phone and checked before running the story.
You don't need a press release to do that.

Iraqi handover — A news analysis about the new Iraqi government in Sunday's Section A stated that outgoing administrator L. Paul Bremer III did not give a farewell speech to the country. His spokesman has since said that Bremer taped an address that was given to Iraqi broadcast media. The spokesman said the address was not publicized to the Western news media.

Hello, I have a fairly new website that has been online for about 8 months. I looked at alot of websites that are in my area sterling silver diamond ring . I have done the internet MLM thing and really got disgusted at the whole thing. So my wife and I thought since we love horses we should build a website around that. We have done pretty good so far but I always want to improve. I didn;t realize it would be so time consuming though.
