A LOBSTER TALE: When Cravings and Character Collide...
A funny thing happened a short time ago…

I was lying in my bed the for a few nights, craving lobster for some reason--something fierce!!! It's weird how I get these cravings—it had been been sushi for a while, or fish tacos, etc. But the last few days it was lobster tails.

Well, I get up and I go into the mess hall we just had built, and our cooks had just opened a small stash of lobster tails and shrimp!!! It blew my mind--the civilian contractors who run most of the food service had come up with something special.

There were just a few people around--the regular meal serving time was already past, and the cooks had kept the lobster tails around for themselves--there weren't nearly enough to go around for the whole company-- and they hadn't let anyone know. (Which irked me some).

Anyway, I have a real good relationship with our cooks, they knew of my fondness for seafood, (The first cook and I had gone looking for the best Seafood in Savannah last March) and they were pestering me to grab a plate and have some. :-)

Declining the offer was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

I went out and spread the word among my different section leaders that I had a very limited supply of lobster tails and shrimp, but it was only for our E-1's through E-4's (Our lowest ranking soldiers). No officers or NCOs allowed.

Rats.

And I obeyed my own edict.

Rats.

It was worth it, though. The guys have always taken good care of me. And things like that always pay off, sooner or later, in spades.

I'll just have to wait ‘til spring for that lobster, I guess. :-)
