From the "Own Worst Enemy" Department...
A while back, we got a tip, through channels, that some bad guy was in such and such a house, located in the (can't specify) section of Ar Ramadi.

Natch, the intelligence has to work its way through the ‘operator-‘like layers and layers of command analysis and go through the Military Decision Making Process, but in this case things happened quickly enough and we were able to alert an infantry company in time to conduct a well-planned, coordinated, and rehearsed raid…

…on the informant’s house.

I shit thee not. Somewhere along the line, the grid coordinates got reversed, or Arab names mixed up (that was a common problem in the early days, but we’re getting the hang of it now), and the informant’s house was mistaken for the enemy’s lair.

Oops.

I’m sure the people at www.occupationwatch.org will make hay with this story, but I think most veterans will understand how easily this can happen. SNAFUS happen in training, too.

So is the informant still working with us?

Well, that’s nobody’s business but ours. (smile)
