Murtha destructive to the war effort
If there was ever any doubt that Murtha's moral cowardice and lack of intestinal fortitude on the Iraq war was hurtful to the war effort, there is now no uncertainty whatsoever:
Murtha's idiocy just helped cause thousands of casualties among Allied forces. Sure, they won't be going home on a stretcher. But they will no longer be in the fight one way or another.
Those troops will have to be replaced by US troops, or the US troops already there will have to be stretched even thinner.
Way to go, Murtha! Way to support the troops!

Bulgaria and Ukraine will begin withdrawing their combined 1,250 troops by mid-December. If Australia, Britain, Italy, Japan, Poland and South Korea reduce or recall their personnel, more than half of the non-American forces in Iraq could be gone by next summer.
Japan and South Korea help with reconstruction, but Britain and Australia provide substantial support forces and Italy and Poland train Iraqi troops and police. Their exodus would deal a blow to American efforts to prepare Iraqis to take over the most dangerous peacekeeping tasks and craft an eventual U.S. exit strategy.
"The vibrations of unease from within the United States clearly have an impact on public opinion elsewhere," said Terence Taylor of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in Washington. "Public opinion in many of these countries is heavily divided."

I just don't see where Murtha is coming from. He's certainly not doing any good for the country. Notice how Sen. Lieberman's words have practically gone unreported? I just stay furious and frustrated lately, with noone to take it out on. If I feel this way, can't imagine how the troops must feel!

Murtha or no, the other forces were going home anyway. He's had no effect in other countries one way or another. Just one more voice against the lack of planning in Iraq. I thought it was only dictatorships that spoke with one voice.

Can you point out where I ever suggested that Murtha should be silenced by anyone other than himself?
Can you point out where I suggested that Murtha didn't have a first amendment right to voice an opinion, like any citizen?
The first amendment protects idiots and surrender monkeys, too. Murtha's a good case in point.

I too think those troops were coming out anyway. In fact, I seem to recall having read about it in WaPO a few months ago (of course, it was under a suitably downbeat and defeatist headline even then).
I remember thinking at the time, "Wasn't eventual withdrawal of troops the plan all along? How can the successful progress of that plan be equated to a Crumbling Coalition?"
