Combat Stress
A well-reported, if slightly maudlin story on the subject from USA Today.

I'm not sure that the PTSD story isn't overstated. Yeah, everyone who saw combat is changed. And everyone who saw death is marked by the experience. And I think our uncles and fathers who saw the elephant in previous wars pretty much nod their heads in understanding. But it also seems to me, a lot of times, that the story leads to some silly comparison with Viet Nam, as if Viet Nam combat stress was the nee plus ultra of combat stress.

But look at the character Septimus, a haunted shell of a WWI veteran from Virginia Woolf's novel Mrs. Dalloway. Hell, look at Homer's laconic and maladjusted Achilles!

But in this case, it's obvious the reporter busted his ass, and let the Iraq war vets tell their own stories. Good job, stud.
